Voltage transformers are used to monitor or measure AC Voltage. This is usually carried out by connecting the Voltage transformer in parallel with the AC source in question. For high AC voltage a step-down transformer would usually be preferred. For very low AC voltage a step-up transformer are used. Autotransformers can sometimes be of big advantage in such applications. A Voltage transformer is defined as such because the linear Voltage parameters have been given the highest priorities.
Current transformers are usually connected in series with the load or source under monitoring. A current transformer is defined as such because the linear current parameters have been given the highest priorities. These may be extended by the use of Hall elements, in which case they are referred to as Current sensors. We have developed a special “NO CONTACT” series. ( Yes – magic again )
These are placed near the conductor by which the current is to be monitored.
We have developed a special application that allows you to measure power of which the current and Voltage are not in phase. ( Can be used to instant quality check of electro wielding in a production line )
